Kimberly Treharne is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specializes in working with young children and families. Kimberly completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of South Florida. Kimberly also received a Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy from USF under the instruction and supervision of Dr. Jennifer Baggerly, and is a Registered Play Therapist.
Kimberly started working with children and families in 2007 as a preschool teacher at Forty Carrots Family Center in Sarasota, Florida. Kimberly became interested in exploring children’s learning differences, social and emotional development, and self-confidence and happiness.
Since attaining her master’s degree, Kimberly has continued to study the variables that impact healthy emotional development and success. Kimberly gained clinical experience working as a mental health therapist with children and families in a community agency. In this role, Kimberly worked with children who experienced traumatic events, developmental delay, challenges with self-esteem and social skills, parental death, separation and divorce, and adoption. Kimberly became promoted to Clinical Supervisor and eventually Clinical Director, where she supervised a team of clinicians, provided training, and worked with other entities to promote interdisciplinary practices.
Kimberly has a specific interest in attachment and bonding and working with parents of infants. Kimberly believes parents and caregivers play an important role in the therapeutic process and often invites parents to be involved in the child’s therapy. Kimberly is an advocate for early intervention as prevention of serious mental illness in adulthood. Kimberly has presented at state and national conferences on early childhood mental health, attachment, and trauma-informed competency.
Kimberly and her husband live in Sarasota with their two children. Kimberly enjoys running, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
